By applying better technology to the structure of your home.
Since I built that first home in Philadelphia in 1986, I have found the key factor in reducing energy consumption is to create a tight thermal package around your home. This reduces heating and cooling consumption. A good way to visualize it is like a cup of coffee without a lid. The coffee will quickly cool. Compare this to coffee stored in a Thermos that retains heat for hours and sometimes days.
My book "Stop Heating The Neighborhood" illustrates how to achieve substantial savings on energy efficiency in your current or future home or investment property. These homes will also be very livable and marketable.
My book also offers tips on what to look for to improve energy use. It helps you decide on builders to hire and how to test your building to ensure that it performs to the specifications of the intended energy design.
In the end, you may decide that you want to build a new, more energy-efficient structure. Whatever your needs or desires, I am hopeful that this blog used with my book will serve as your roadmap.
